Payment and Coverage
I participate in many insurance company networks which entitle covered patients to a discount. I also offer a discount based on need to patients who are not entitled to an insurance network discount.
Many insurers have discount plans, but few insurers in MA cover acupuncture directly. Regulations change frequently - please contact your insurance company or benefits manager to determine if you are covered. Under some policies, eligibility for coverage is determined on a case by case basis. Insurers usually limit coverage to a fixed number of treatments or a fixed sum.
Many health account plans allow you to use your set-aside for acupuncture.
HealthNet (Mass Health), Medicaid and Medicare do not cover acupuncture.
Workers' Comp and accident claims often cover at least a trial course of acupuncture, but you may need authorization. If you have exhausted a PIP claim, you are responsible for payment, but may recover your expenses upon reaching a settlement. Please note this may be a lengthy process, which is why treatments must be paid for at the time of service.
In Amherst, I accept cash or checks, and can bill if you are covered. If you wish to charge your treatments, you must book appointments @ Baystate Pain Management Center.
Unless prior arrangements have been made, payment is expected at the time of your appointment.
